The
currency in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound (ŁE) which is made up of
100 piastres. Currency notes are in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20,
50, and 100 Egyptian Pounds. Coins are available in 5, 10, 20, 25,
and 50 Piasters.

for commercial purposes)
There
is no mandatory exchange upon entry, however, all Egyptian currency
must be accompanied by an official exchange receipt when paying
hotel bills. Bank branches are conveniently located at ports of
entry, and in all major hotels.
Most
foreign currencies, cash or travelers cheque can easily be changed
in Egypt. Exchange bureaus are found in larger cities but they mainly
only deal in cash. Visa and Mastercard are good for cash advances
and together with American Express, JCb cards and Eurocard are accepted
in a wide range of shops and hotels.
When
traveling to lesser tourist areas the best currencies to have are
US Dollars, Pounds Sterling and the German Mark.
