A bust believed to portray the son of
Cleopatra and Julius Caesar has been raised
from the Mediterranean seabed off Egypt
by French marine explorer Franck Goddio.
The granite bust of Caesarion (Little
Caesar) is undergoing desalination treatment
in Egypt before being shipped to London
for its premiere at a British Museum exhibition
in April 2001.
British Museum curator Susan Walker told
Monday's London Times newspaper: "This
is a very important find".
"There is nothing more exciting than
to display a sculpture of a leading personality
of the time of Cleopatra that has literally
just been taken out of Alexandria harbor
and not been seen before."
